5 Steps to Keeping Your (Busy) Life in Harmony

A "harmonized" life these days sounds like a tall order. Between housework, homework, workwork, and busywork, there are perpetually too many things to do, and not enough time to find that mythical balance. Nothing is more frustrating than feeling like you're doing doing doing but getting nothing truly done that you really want. Working with people from all walks of life, from fulltime moms to CEOs at large companies, I've distilled many universal truths about success. There's a secret I've learned that works quite well at helping you to achieve what you want: Decide what you want.

It sounds so simple, but here's the problem: I see plenty of people who are overly-busy yet who feel unsatisfied and unfulfilled. They are physically tired, spiritually drained, and far from where they'd like to be—as if they've been running on a treadmill going nowhere fast. Why? Because they haven't clearly mapped out what t...

Unlocking Minds to Create New Realities.
Imagine It ! Feel It! Live The Dream!

Perhaps you can relate to my own personal journey. As an adolescent, I surrendered to other people's beliefs about who I was instead of pursuing the beautiful dreams within me. Surrounded by harshness, my creative heart became crippled by lack of self-confidence. The effects of childhood trauma, rejection, pain, loss, and abuse rooted themselves in my mind. These limiting painful memories created error patterns, fueled by angry and fearful emotions. As a result, I backed away from life and abandoned my dreams.

By the time I turned 21, I knew my past was driving my future as my old negative mental habits kept their strangling hold on my life. But I wanted change. I no longer wanted to be smothered by my inner conflicts or by people with no vision. I became determined to reclaim my life.

My desire for solutions encouraged me to summon the courage to take charge of my inner bluepri...

Everybody needs some time to shine, time to be recognized, special, admired. It's not selfish: it's human.

Early one Saturday I saw in the local paper that a workshop for blues musicians was scheduled for that very morning. I showed the notice to my husband, who intends to be the world's next great blues harmonica player. "I'd like to go, "he said, "but I promised I would paint your office." I assured him that the office could wait and sent him off with my blessing.

He thought I was being selfless and wonderful, but I really wasn't. You see, I'd had a lot of shine time that week---a couple of career successes, lunch out with five favorite friends, and a massage that had accounted for one, entire, luxurious hour. I was full. When you're basking in the sun, it's natural to want those you love to join you there. But if you're not getting enough of your own shine time, it's easy to be needy, whiny, and pitiful.

It can get worse than that: the shine-...

Inspired Quote of the Day

There are many ways to enter a house. If the front door is closed, there's always the back door or a window that's open a crack. Keep looking for a crack to be able to enter the world you want to live in. ~ Guy Laliberté

Our inspiration for today is a bit different in that it was written by me from an interview with Cirque du Soleil founder and CEO, Guy Laliberté, while he was at the cosmonaut training facility in Star City, Russia. Guy is heading to the International Space Station at the end of the month for two weeks and was entering into quarantine the day after our interview.

You really should listen to our interview- I believe it's one of the best we've ever featured. Below is the inspiration that Guy shared with me, paraphrased just a bit. Enjoy!

When I came up with the idea for Cirque Du Soleil, people told me more than once that I was crazy. We were big dreamers with a lot of guts. The first few years were difficult because we had little experience, but with persuasion, dedication and belief in our dream we succeeded.

When I shared my vision, people told me that I was crazy- in a good sense. Crazy because they didn't think I'd be able to pull it off. ...

Love, Love, Love and love some more

You will never regret spending more time with your family and friends and less time on other things. Practice both random and intentional acts of support and kindness. Be generous with your community in your time and your pocketbook. Keep extending yourself with gentle understanding and compassion to the world. Accept and become gentler with yourself and stop judging others for being different. See the innocence in all people, imagining them as small children and old adults. Our challenge is not to give our love only to the good and happy; our challenge is to love all beings-- one and the same.

Live Presently

Live every day as if it could be your last and hold your mortality close. Knowing that you will someday die, helps you live life more fully alive and awake. In this moment, you are perfectly aligned in mind, body, spirit and authenticity. Breathe and immerse yourself in the immeasurable opportunities. Feel the source of yo...

After being diagnosed with MS, I realized that anything can happen to anyone, at any time. This was life-changing, but what really woke me up to the world was meeting and talking to a homeless man that I met at a bus stop in Honolulu while working there in July and August 2008. I took a bus to the wrong stop and it was a bad section of town. We had talked for ten minutes or so and then he mentioned that he considered himself houseless, not homeless, as he just had some bad things happen. He also explained that he was not someone who looked to drugs and alcohol to help ease the pain.

This was a strange time in my life as money was tight and the only place I was able to find work was 6,000 miles from my home in Ohio. My wife and I were not in an ideal situation as it was with work, but it struck me that day that many others were a lot worse off then we were. I also realized how close anyone can be to being in this guy's situation. As the bus finally pulled up to our stop, the ma...

Visionary Leadership - From Where I Sit

When I personally set off to visualize a dream or a goal, I use the letters of my name, G.A.R.C.I.A. as a formula or guide to focus my vision in the area I am pursuing. You might try this with your name.

Go for it.

I visualize my goals. All I have to do is simply recall that as a young boy, I could barely speak English and my education was suffering, and that I worked under the blazing sun for 12-13 hours a day, as a laborer, for 40 cent an hour. I remember that I felt like I was in prison, and in a sense, my own mind was my prison. Although society kept telling me that I'd never amount to anything I kept dreaming. It was then that I told myself, go for it.

Act on your ideas.

Life was not giving me what I wanted. I knew that picking cucumbers and hoeing weeds was not my destiny. I had big ideas and dreams. "Most people fail because they settle for what life has given them, they stop trying." You ha...
