For many of us, we grow up and the most important thing is who we are going to be when we grow up. ; Then we focus on doing all these things in order to have the stuff that someone who is like who we want to be would have. ; Unfortunately for many of us, we focus more on the having than the being. ; We are designed as human beings, and when we lose sight of that and begin to do things in order to have things, we lose sight of why we are here. ; Don't wait to find your purpose...define your purpose. ; Declare who you are and make what you do the effect of who you are, not just something being done to have certain things.

When what you do is a result of who you are, you will have the things that someone who you declare to be w...

To: My Dear Reader,
From: The "Woman of Independent Means"

I laugh as I write this last line. Funny but it seems to capture all the vigor and verve of self-sufficiency, achievement and hard core measurable goals which marked my passage and intentions upon entering the decade of the 90s. I determined to change the world, to make quantum leaps in financial gain, to publish and to produce. After all, 40 was upon me and time a'fleeting.

Now, closer to 60 than to 40, I realize that the better triumphs have not come from reaching these goals but in the shadows and nuances of missing them. When things have not gone as planned and I am forced to stop in pain and confusion, I learn and grow more. And I discover how very dependent we are upon an external world to help us see meaning and discover the deeper purpose behind the seemingly meaningless. It is impossible to truly be a "woman or man of independent means."

I have discovered that for every beas...

What is it that I can give to you or you to me that brings each of us pleasure or new insight, that depletes neither of us, and that we can then pass on to others without losing anything of our own? What is it we can give to each other that improves the quality of living for both of us, and does so without exhausting the vital resources of our planet? What is it that cannot be taken from us in the way we can lose a job, our savings, or even a loved one?

This is real wealth. It is our sincere smile, the honest concern that can be read in our eyes. It is a helping hand offered and the pleasure of sharing in something that relieves another's burden. It is something of the wisdom we have garnered from our years of living offered unpretentiously and without attachment to whether it is received. It is the quality of our attention: our willingness not to judge or interpret as we listen. It is the way in which we let someone inside of us, so we can know him or her directly. Or know th...

Synchronicity - Are You Where You Are Supposed to Be?

The door opens. The path is lit. A missing piece falls into your lap. The phone rings and the caller is someone you thought of just moments ago. The ever-famous ";magic"; parking spot opens up. I love it when I seem to just bump into someone I really want or need to see. What are the odds? There are 1,440 minutes in a day. What if I had walked a different route, took an extra minute to read my mail, veered left instead of right? There are 1,439 odds against me bumping into that person...if one goes simply by mathematical calculations. But why on earth would someone choose to do that?

Long before James Redfield wrote of the Celestine Prophecy and Celestine Vision, I held the belief that synchronicity in my life meant that I was on the right track on all levels: spiritually, emotionally, intentionally, physically, mentally. I still choose to believe this: the more synchronicity presents itself in my l...

Music is one of God's greatest gifts to humanity-it transcends all of the arts, delivers crystal clarity, touches every charka and can make you scream for joy or cry a thousand emotions away in one passage. Better yet, the universal power of music can be applied to the way we communicate, work, play and most importantly, the way in which we really listen to one another. Furthermore, the core elements of music can literally create alignment and harmony in our everyday lives! Why should we expect anything less from the world's undisputed international language?

From the moment we are birthed, the heartbeat of music races throughout our being. Humanity should not delay another second, for there exists at least six-billion culturally-diverse stories and timeless lessons that music can reflect back to every man, woman and child - a soul star experience waiting for us to simply say ";yes";.

In that ";yes"; we will learn how to trul...

First and foremost, follow your dream. When I began work in July 1965 at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) as the first woman attorney in the Office of the General Counsel, interpreting Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which, among other things, prohibits sex discrimination by covered employers, employment agencies, and labor unions, I found I had a passion for women's rights. As a Jew who had to leave Berlin, Germany, in 1933 with my immediate family to save our lives when I was five years old, I early learned of the evils of discrimination based on religion. When I rode through the South with my family en route to spending the winter in Miami Beach, Florida, when I was a teenager, and saw the racist headlines in the newspapers and the racist signs on benches, busses, water fountains and restrooms, I saw the evils of discrimination based on race. And when I joined the EEOC, I became aware of the evils of discrimination based on gender. It's all of a piece...

THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS

Contributed by Father Miles O'Brien Riley

I was concluding a three day Christmas retreat in Raleigh, North Carolina when a family gave me this lovely, loving story.

It's just a small white envelope stuck among the branches of our Christmas tree. No name, no identification, no inscription. It has peeked through the branches of our tree for the past 10 years or so.

It all began because my husband Mike hated Christmas—oh, not the true meaning of Christmas, but the commercial aspects of it: overspending, the frantic running around at the last minute to get a tie for Uncle Harry and the dusting powder for Grandma—the gifts given in desperation because you couldn't think of anything else. Knowing he felt this way, I decided one year to bypass the usual shirts, sweaters, ties, and so forth. I reached for something special just for Mike. The inspiration came in an unusual way.

Our son Kevin, who was 12 that yea...

Life is precious.

Often we get distracted by day-to-day trivia - those oh-so-important must have's and must do's on our lists. But, in the end, most things and activities don't matter people do.

That's what hit me - hard - as I tread softly past the beds of people, hanging on to life with a thread.

My destination? My father, ICU. In one week, he had endured two open heart surgeries - the first one planned, followed by an emergency second one to correct the first one gone bad.

And then, there he was. I gasped. A dagger pierced my heart. Tears sprung and slid silently down my cheeks. My strong, able-bodied father was pale and frail. Bruised and battered. Ripped open and zipped up - twice. Tubes exited. Wires and needles entered. Machines hummed and glared. Unfamiliar faces watched - closely.

I took a deep breath to muster courage. Somehow, he knew I was there. His eyes opened and locked into mine. They revealed all. I knew that th...

Live Your Life Purpose - The Key to Living a Life of Inspiration.

There are many things I can share with you that can inspire you when you are having a discouraging day or a discouraging week. However, I wish to share with you they biggest key of all to be able to have a life of inspiration and fulfillment.

Knowing and then living your life purpose more than anything else keeps the fires going for a life of inspiration. Living your life purpose will give you a life of meaning and a life of direction. To not know your life purpose, also known as your reason for being here, is like not having a destination or a map when you are driving your car.

And in living our life purpose, we have the power to achieve our dreams and goals. I believe you can do virtually anything you set your mind to as long as it's in alignment with your life purpose.

When I discovered my life purpose and began to live it, my level of inspiration increased perhaps 100 f...

It was 1984. White water rafting in Lehigh River. It was me, my significant other, Alan, and our combined four children, ages 7 to 12.

I was in the front of the raft looking around Alan was in the back paddling. The children were directing Alan toward the roughest rapids they could see.

Suddenly, we hit a rock. The raft flexed, throwing Alan into the white water. I knew that Alan would be fine. He was strong and good swimmer. My fear was that I couldn't get the children back to safety.

In what seemed like hours and was only split seconds -- Alan's head popped out the water. I leaned over and yelled. ";Get back in this raft!"; He said, ";I would if I could."; At that point, I leaned over the side, grabbed his arm, and flung all 200 pounds of him back into the raft.

If anyone would have asked me if I could have lifted Alan I would h...

The fastest way to happiness and peace is the absolute acceptance of WHO YOU ARE right in this moment. The nature of humanness is divinity. This is evident in many of the daily "miracles" of our existence: our body, the seasons, the supreme organization of the universe. We know this in our cells, our bones. There is a deep resonance to the truth that we are all connected, that divinity expresses ITSELF as us, exactly as we are.

The ego says, "Ok, you have the capacity to love and sure, you might be an expression of the divine, but until you get your spending under control, your weight under control, stop losing it with your kids, take one more class, get one more degree, stop being depressed, get a job, a lover, a clear complexion, be articulate, express your art, eliminate feeling awkward, etc... you are not going to have access to the secret, the happiness, the peace, the abundance, the ones, etc.." You see how this line of thinking does not allow for th...

Imagine a life orchestrated to complement your natural rhythms. A life where your work is your play, and your play is your life. You deserve to be happy, healthy and wealthy. You have permission to create your life on your terms. So instead of putting up with mediocrity, waiting for a knock on the door or an invitation to change, take your life's adventure to heart. The process begins here, now, today.

It's time to get moving - to wake up, lift the veil of the status quo, and embrace the richness of a full life!

Out of all the "keys" to living a full life that I have discovered here, passion is probably the most important. If you were locked in a windowless room, passion would be the key that opens the door. When you are in the presence of a passionate person, the world falls away, and you are suddenly swept up in a tidal wave of possibility. The world is a playground for people who have the courage to follow their bliss. What are you passionate about?

I learned a long time ago that you should not judge a person by their background or what they have been through, but rather judge them on what they have done with what they have been through in spite of their background.

That message's power and depth has never lost its hold over me. How I translate it and use it in my daily life, is that no matter what pain, happiness, sorrow, or joy you have endured in your past, no matter what abuse or horrors you have seen, smelled or endured, they do not define you. You define yourself. Your actions, your character and your moral endurance are what define you.

Any experience can create concentric waves of chance that radiate around you. You may not know the how or why, but take comfort in the knowledge and light within you, that you can overcome and thrive with whatever you come in contact with. You control it.

JOY: The Gift of Acceptance, Trust and Love

We already have everything we want,
everything we need and everything we love.

The key to remembering the incredible values we already have
within our own beings is to know whatever beauty we see in others
and in the world is already all inside of us.

Because we do not see anything we do not have.
We simply reflect each other every day,
good or bad if there is such a thing as good or bad.

When we can embrace all the qualities in others and in the world,
there is only peace and love within us.

Because there is nothing for us to fight against.
There is nothing for us to try to change.
By loving every moment of our life, we are simply living in JOY.

JOY is the purest, simplest and the most peaceful stillness
we can nurture in our heart, to turn off our busy mind telling us things
that are not important in order to experience the light within.

When we c...
